What is the outlook for the parcel locker market in Poland?
Deliveries to lockers already account for almost 40% of all parcels delivered, and by 2024 this share is expected to equal that of home deliveries.
According to research to date, using parcel lockers is in line with environmental trends. One reason is that delivering many parcels to one place reduces carbon dioxide emissions and fuel consumption. In addition, customers most often collect parcels on the way to work or to the shops, which also reduces car traffic.
To make its network even more environmentally friendly, in 2021 InPost installed the first Paczkomat powered by energy from photovoltaic panels. This is part of the "Green City" programme, which has been joined by Kraków, Kielce and Łódź, among others. It can therefore be expected that more such machines will appear in Poland. InPost's competitor Allegro is also focusing on the environment. Its parcel lockers are to be powered by energy from renewable sources and fitted with air quality sensors. In addition, some of the machines are to be covered with a green wall of plants.
Deliveries to lockers already account for almost 40% of all parcels delivered, and by 2024 this figure is expected to equal the share of home deliveries in the market. At the same time, according to the Dataplace.ai analysis, almost 15.7 million people in Poland live more than a 10-minute walk from the nearest parcel pick-up point or parcel locker of any company. This means that there is still room in Poland for network growth and for new machines and pick-up points.
