What makes tech companies succeed: case study
Information brokerage projects vary, but they have one thing in common. To carry them out, we always use open sources of information. Open means legal and available to everyone. Besides identifying these sources, the ability to analyse them is also important. To show how we work, we have described one of our projects. This time our task was a success factor analysis.

A client who wanted to enter the technology market came to us. They had their own know-how, but they were interested in how similar companies had developed their business. The client named 4 companies for us to analyse. Our tasks included identifying the success factors, i.e. the elements in a company's history that led to its market success.
What does a company's history reveal about its success?
Analysing a company's history covered partners joining or leaving, changes in legal form and name, and sources of development financing, including EU grants and private equity investments.
First, we analysed the history of each company, from its founding to the present day. We paid attention to new partners joining or leaving.
We also looked at changes in the companies' legal form. For one of the companies, the key finding was that it had changed its name.
An important element for all the companies was identifying the sources of financing for their development. We analysed the results of calls for proposals and grants from European Union funds. We also checked press reports on investments by private equity funds in technology companies.
What can a company's website and media coverage reveal?
From websites and the media we established important company events, team growth, awards, employment structure, the trade fairs and conferences where products were promoted, and the offering and distribution network.
The next step was to analyse the companies' websites and information about them in the media. We looked for information on important company events, team growth, awards etc.
The client said it was important for them to know the companies' employment structure. We managed to obtain this information using open sources of information.
In later stages of the research we identified the conferences and trade fairs at which the company promoted its products. From interviews with the management board we were able to infer how the company itself identifies its success factors.
We also analysed the company's offering and its distribution network. This is, of course, only part of the information resources we use in projects of this kind. As always, in addition to free sources of information, we also use commercial resources.
What are the success factors of technology companies?
The success factors of the companies analysed included external financing at the right stage of development, hiring specialists, an in-house factory, highly innovative products and rapid international expansion.
In the final report, the client received from us, among other things, a list of recommendations which, in our opinion, contributed to the market success of the companies in question.
The success factors include:
Analysing the selected companies against these criteria and drawing conclusions took us about 10 days. The lead time for a project of this kind depends on many factors, which we may write about on our blog another time.
If you are planning a business or want to expand your operations and would like to find out what is happening in your industry or how your competitors operate, write to us.
