01

How big is the automotive spare parts market in Poland?

According to SDCM, the Polish association of parts distributors and manufacturers, the automotive parts sector in Poland, counting production, trade and services together, turns over almost PLN 140 bn a year and employs more than 330,000 people (Trade.gov.pl, 2024).

The spare parts market, or aftermarket, covers parts and services for cars once their warranty has ended. It includes distributors, shops, independent workshops and authorised dealers.

Neither SDCM nor Statistics Poland (GUS) publishes a free figure for the value of the aftermarket alone in 2025. The SDCM figure is broader: it also includes parts production, much of it for car plants and for export. The size of the domestic market is therefore best shown by other measures.

The first is the car parc. At the end of 2025 there were 21.08 million passenger cars in Poland, with an average age of 16.2 years (IBRM Samar). Each of them needs service parts, and older cars also need repair parts.

The second is distributor revenue. The Inter Cars Group had revenue of PLN 21,216.2 m in 2025, and the Auto Partner Group PLN 4,424.9 m, of which PLN 2,176.4 m in Poland (section 03).

The third is workshops. According to SDCM, there are about 24,000 workshops in Poland (section 07).

For foreign suppliers: there is no single published figure for the Polish aftermarket. If you need one for a business case, build it from the car parc, distributor revenue and your own category data rather than relying on a headline number.

02

How many cars are on Polish roads and how old are they?

According to IBRM Samar, there were 21.08 million passenger cars in Poland at the end of 2025, 508,649 more than a year earlier. Their average age was 16.24 years.

Poland’s car parc grows every year. In 2025 it added more than half a million cars (+2.5%). There are 565 passenger cars per 1,000 inhabitants. A record 597,428 new cars were registered in 2025, but that is less than 3% of the parc (IBRM Samar).

The Central Vehicle Register (CEP) lists many more cars, about 24.2 million. About 3.13 million of them are so-called dead souls: vehicles that are registered but most likely no longer exist. IBRM Samar excludes them.

Polish cars are old. According to ACEA, the average age of a passenger car in Poland was 15.2 years in 2024. The EU average is 12.7 years. About 73% of cars in Poland are more than 10 years old. For the parts market this is good news: older cars break down more often and are more likely to go to an independent workshop.

Many cars in Poland run on LPG. According to ACEA, it was 12.0% of the parc in 2024, compared with 2.7% in the EU. Petrol accounted for 44.3% and diesel for 38.3%. Battery-electric cars made up 0.4% of the parc and hybrids (HEV) 2.5%.

Source: IBRM Samar (Otomoto, 19.03.2026); ACEA, Vehicles on European roads, 01.2026; MarketHub analysis

Why the figures differ: IBRM Samar reports the position at the end of 2025 and removes vehicles from the CEP data that most likely no longer exist. ACEA reports 2024 data using its own methodology, harmonised across the EU. That is why Samar shows 21.08 million cars with an average age of 16.24 years, and ACEA 20.50 million cars and 15.2 years. We use ACEA for EU comparisons and the newer Samar data to describe Poland.

For foreign suppliers: an old parc with a high share of LPG cars means steady demand for repair parts and for LPG system components, which are a niche in most of Western Europe.

03

Who leads spare parts distribution in Poland?

Inter Cars is Poland’s largest parts distributor: according to its annual report, the Inter Cars Group had revenue of PLN 21,216.2 m in 2025, 9.0% more than in 2024. The other listed distributor, Auto Partner, had PLN 4,424.9 m (+7.6%).

Inter Cars operates in Poland and more than a dozen countries in Central and Eastern Europe, and is now expanding mainly in Western Europe. In 2025 net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company was PLN 806.4 m (+11.8%) and operating profit PLN 1,162.9 m (+9.8%).

Auto Partner is growing faster abroad than in Poland. In 2025 domestic sales grew by 5.2% to PLN 2,176.4 m. Foreign sales grew by 10.0% to PLN 2,248.5 m and exceeded half of revenue (50.8%, compared with 49.7% a year earlier). Net profit fell by 4.3% to PLN 198.9 m. The gross margin fell from 27.4% to 26.6%.

The third major player is Moto-Profil, owner of the ProfiAuto network. In April 2026 the network had more than 270 wholesalers and shops and 3,500 partner workshops, about 16% more than a year earlier (Motofaktor). The company is not listed, so we do not quote its revenue.

Both listed companies grew revenue faster in 2025 than Poland’s car parc grew (+2.5%). Part of that growth comes from foreign markets.

For foreign manufacturers: the Polish market is concentrated around a few large distributors with dense branch networks. Listing with one of them is usually the fastest route to independent workshops.

04

How many car parts does Poland produce and export?

According to AutomotiveSuppliers.pl, manufacturers of automotive parts and accessories in Poland sold output worth PLN 118.8 bn in 2025 (+4.3% y/y). Exports of parts and accessories reached a record €17.88 bn.

Poland is a bigger producer of car parts than of cars. According to the Polish Economic Institute (PIE), parts and accessories accounted for 5.7% of manufacturing sold output in 2023, and vehicle production for 4.1%. The automotive sector as a whole is about 10% of manufacturing.

In 2025 sold output of the whole automotive sector was PLN 226.7 bn (+2.9%). Parts manufacturers accounted for more than half: PLN 118.8 bn. These figures cover companies with more than 49 employees. Employment at parts manufacturers fell by 2.1% to 142,400 (AutomotiveSuppliers.pl, based on GUS data).

Exports of parts and accessories were €17.88 bn in 2025 (+1.07%). That is 40.8% of the exports of the whole automotive industry, which fell by 3.73% to €43.8 bn. Germany is the largest buyer of Polish parts (38.15%), followed by Czechia (9.63%), Slovakia (7.03%) and France (5.88%).

According to PIE, brake systems and petrol engines are among Poland’s most competitive automotive exports. The vast majority of parts go to car plants (the OE market), not to the aftermarket.

For foreign buyers: Poland is an established parts sourcing base, especially for German car makers. Many Polish plants already meet OE quality requirements.

05

Which EU rules govern the spare parts market?

Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/822 of 17 April 2023 extended the EU motor vehicle block exemption (MVBER) until 31 May 2028. Agreements that restrict sales of spare parts to independent repairers do not benefit from the exemption.

MVBER. Regulation (EU) No 461/2010 exempts certain agreements on spare parts and repair services from the ban on anti-competitive agreements. The exemption does not cover agreements that restrict members of an authorised network from selling spare parts to independent repairers. Nor does it cover agreements that restrict a parts supplier from selling to distributors, independent repairers or end users, or from placing its trade mark on the parts (Article 5). In 2023 the Commission extended these rules by five years, to 31 May 2028, and committed to evaluating them before that date.

Access to repair and maintenance information (RMI). Regulation (EU) 2018/858 on vehicle type approval, which has applied since 1 September 2020, requires car makers to give independent operators unrestricted, standardised and non-discriminatory access to OBD information, diagnostic tools and repair and maintenance information (Article 61). Independent operators include repairers, makers and distributors of spare parts and tools, and publishers of technical information. Fees for access must be reasonable and proportionate (Article 63).

Data Act. Regulation (EU) 2023/2854 on data has applied since 12 September 2025. It covers connected products, including vehicles. The user of a car has the right to access its data and can ask the data holder to share it with a third party of their choice, such as a workshop (Articles 4 and 5). The request comes from the user or a party acting on their behalf, so the workshop has no free-standing right to that data. The obligation to design products so that users can access their data applies to products placed on the market after 12 September 2026 (Articles 3(1) and 50). In September 2025 the Commission issued guidance on vehicle data under the Data Act.

What this means. The MVBER protection of parts sales to independent workshops applies at least until 31 May 2028. Before then the Commission must evaluate the MVBER and decide what comes next. For parts distributors this is the key date for the coming years.

For foreign suppliers: the same EU rules apply in Poland as in the rest of the EU, so your aftermarket access rights do not change when you enter the Polish market.

06

How will electromobility affect the spare parts market?

According to the PZPM and PSNM Electromobility Counter, 121,606 battery-electric passenger cars (BEV) were registered in Poland at the end of 2025, about 0.6% of the parc. In 2025, however, their share of new car registrations exceeded 7%.

The number of electric cars is growing fast. There were 132,775 BEVs of all kinds (passenger cars, vans and trucks) at the end of 2025, 118% more than a year earlier. On top of that there are 116,043 plug-in hybrids (PHEV). There were 11,762 public charging points.

Compared with the whole parc, this is still small. According to ACEA, BEVs made up 0.4% of the parc in Poland and 2.3% in the EU in 2024. Even in the EU, where about 17% of new cars sold in 2025 were electric, the parc changes slowly.

For the parts market this means two things. First, for many years most demand will come from combustion-engine cars, and parts for engines, exhaust systems or clutches will keep selling well. Second, electric cars will start reaching independent workshops once their warranty ends. They will need different parts, tools and training.

Inter Cars expects the share of electric cars in the parc and in workshops to grow gradually. The company is also expanding its catalogues for new Chinese brands, as enquiries about parts for them keep rising (Motofaktor, 04.2026).

07

How many workshops are there in Poland and how are parts sales changing?

According to SDCM, there are about 24,000 car workshops in Poland, and almost 18,000 of them, or three quarters, cannot find qualified mechanics (Interia, 2026).

Independent workshops are the main customers of parts distributors. Their number is stable, but more and more of them belong to networks. Networks give workshops marketing, training and better terms for buying parts. In return, the workshop buys mainly from the distributor that runs the network. ProfiAuto, the network of distributor Moto-Profil, had 3,500 partner workshops in April 2026, about 16% more than a year earlier (Motofaktor).

The biggest problem for workshops is a lack of staff. According to SDCM, three quarters of workshops cannot find mechanics. The industry trains its own future staff, for example through the “Wyścig talentów” competition for students of automotive schools.

For foreign suppliers: workshop networks decide which brands mechanics use. Training and technical support for network workshops can matter as much as price.

08

What is the outlook for the spare parts market in Poland in 2026?

According to data published by the companies, sales of the Inter Cars Group in Poland grew by 6.3% y/y in Q1 2026 to PLN 2,000.1 m, and Auto Partner’s revenue by 8.97% to PLN 1,169.6 m (Motofaktor, 04.2026).

Demand is supported by a growing and ageing car parc. In early 2026 sales were also boosted by a harsh winter. Sales of batteries and other cold-sensitive parts rose sharply in many countries (Inter Cars via Motofaktor).

There are also risks.

Prices and margins. Auto Partner’s gross margin fell from 27.4% to 26.6% in 2025, and its net profit fell by 4.3% despite higher revenue.

Parts manufacturers in Europe. According to a survey by CLEPA, the European association of automotive suppliers, 76% of companies expect margins below 5% in 2026. European suppliers have cut 104,000 jobs since 2024.

Supply chains. The CEO of Inter Cars says the escalation in the Middle East in March 2026 may affect fuel prices, transport costs and parts supplies.

Regulation. The MVBER expires on 31 May 2028. The Commission’s decision will determine how strong the position of independent workshops is after that date.

In the longer term, electric cars and Chinese brands will reshape the market. Both trends require new product ranges, service data and training for mechanics.

MarketHub expert comment

“For a parts distributor, manufacturer or importer, these figures are good news, with a caveat. Poland’s car parc is growing and ageing, so demand for repairs is not going away. At the same time, Auto Partner’s gross margin fell in 2025, and the company already earns more than half its revenue abroad. If you are entering the Polish market, compete on availability and speed of delivery to workshops, not on price alone. The second issue is your product range. Electric cars are still less than 1% of cars on the road, but in 2025 they were already more than 7% of new registrations. Within a few years they will come off warranty and reach independent workshops, as will a growing number of Chinese-brand cars. Check now whether you have the catalogue, the service data and trained people for them. The shortage of mechanics is a real bottleneck: according to SDCM, three quarters of workshops cannot find them.”
