Which non-alcoholic drinks do Poles buy most?

Carbonated drinks dominate the Polish market with more than 30% of total sales, followed by bottled water and by juices, nectars and still drinks.

The non-alcoholic beverages market can be divided by type of drink: carbonated drinks, waters, juices, nectars and still drinks, energy drinks, and vitamin drinks. Carbonated drinks still dominate the Polish market and generate the highest sales value (more than 30% of total market sales). However, their sales value is growing more slowly than in other categories. Bottled water is in second place, and juices, nectars and still drinks come third.

Since 1 January 2024, energy drinks (i.e. those with more than 150 mg/l of caffeine, or with taurine) may only be sold to adults. This has affected sales of these products. Initial research shows that sales volume fell by 14% compared with the same period of the previous year. Flavoured energy drinks recorded the largest declines: Poles bought 17% fewer of them than a year earlier, and 12% fewer of the classic ones.

What trends are shaping the non-alcoholic beverages market in Poland?

The strongest trend is the shift towards healthier options, with manufacturers simplifying formulations and cutting sugar, while interest in non-alcoholic beer and wine is also growing.

Changing customer preferences and new trends also affect the non-alcoholic beverages market. One very clear change is the shift towards healthier options. Manufacturers are making product formulations simpler and more natural. They are also cutting sugar, both to avoid the sugar levy and to respond to customers' growing health awareness. In carbonated drinks, customers often choose light versions, which they see as healthier.

Another trend is designing drinks for specific target groups, particularly children and athletes, but also gamers and women. As a result, drinks for each group have their own formulation and look. The look matters most in products for children.

In recent years the non-alcoholic beverages market has grown rapidly, and we have seen growing interest in non-alcoholic beer and wine in particular. There are several reasons for this. One of the most important is that consumers are paying more attention to a healthy lifestyle and prefer alcohol-free options. The trend is visible in the wine and beer markets.
